I've always been sensitive to images that invoke grace, whose subjects escape earth's gravity and, for a moment, touch heaven. I knew this month's best would be of beautiful Sammie Gilberg from Movement Arts Collective in Seaford, NY. And I knew it would be this particular one. It took me longer to choose because, while Sammie is highly articulate, her work keeps me guessing.  Isn't it the artist, after all, who provides a little mystery to ponder. I see in her improvised form both a lofty Pre-Raphaelite spirituality and grounded soulfulness and natural joy one might expect from subjects by Winslow Homer. That's the amazing thing about working with dancers like Sammie. You're not sure what you're going to get. Just be ready for one beautifully composed moment after another continually "gracing" the lens. Sammie performs and instructs at MAC under the gifted direction of Kristie Tavormina. I cannot wait to work with her again. In fact, I think I'm gonna start bothering her now for a session.
